Harvey
Katz,
now
the
lone
member
of
the
spoken-word
act
Athens
Boys
Choir,
is
not
known
for
subtlety.
“I
just
call
it
like
I
see
it,”
Katz
says.
“And
you
can’t
help
but
have
a
sense
of
humor
about
the
whole
ordeal
when
you’re
a
Jewish
transsexual
man
from
the
Deep
South.”
True
to
form,
Katz
releases
his
new
disc
entitled
“Bar
Mitzvah
Superhits
of
the
‘80s,
‘90s
and
Today”
on
Sept.
2
and
celebrates
with
a
performance
at
Eddie’s
Attic
in
Decatur
on
Sept.
4.
Local
gay
musician
Wayne
Fishell
joins
the
show,
as
well
as
a
“surprise
guest.”
Katz
isn’t
saying
who
it
might
be,
only
that
the
performer’s
“status
as
Mayor
of
Awesomeville
remains
true.”
Athens
Boys
Choir
began
as
a
duo
out
of
Athens,
Ga.
They
quickly
became
a
sensation
in
the
queer
homo-hop
movement
in
Atlanta
and
beyond.
Katz
then
became
Harvey
Katz
and
went
solo,
but
kept
the
Athens
Boys
Choir
name.
