WHEN THE years-long Midtown tradition of Brain Freeze Trivia on Wednesday nights at Blake’s on the Park ended on April 23 in favor of a new "Hook Up"-themed singles night, other trivia games in Atlanta far from stopped along with it.

Brain Freeze’s irreverent humor and halftime “Electric Slide” break may be missed by regulars, but Atlanta’s gay trivia heads who need their fix still have plenty of options at local bars and restaurants.

Midtown's trivia elite already know about Joe’s on Juniper’s twice-weekly Trivia with Tom & Jim, which still goes strong as it takes over the restaurant’s popular patio on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Known for its tough questions, laugh-out-loud-funny team names, and write-down-everything-you-know bonus questions, Joe’s trivia nights never disappoint the hardcore trivia boys and girls.

Following a similar format, but a little more off the gay beaten path, is Locos Grill & Pub near North Druid Hills Road and Briarcliff, which hosts trivia on Wednesdays. It’s a more mixed crowd, so having a lesbian or two on the team to handle the tough sports questions is never a bad idea. For people who can name every member of the Rolling Stones past and present, the restaurant hosts music trivia on Saturdays.

If your knowledge niche leans less towards aging British rockers and more towards yellow animated families, Mellow Mushroom in the Midtown Promenade hosts Simpsons Trivia on Mondays.

Other restaurants that serve up a side of trivia include Tin Roof Cantina, with team trivia, and Avondale Pizza Café in Avondale Estates, both on Tuesdays. The two are known as stomping grounds for a group of lesbians from the Women’s Outdoor Network of Atlanta, so visit www.wonatlanta.com, or get on the group’s email list and find out more.

FOR TRIVIA BUFFS who require a steady supply of drinks to lubricate the knowledge gears in their heads, options still remain to test their knowledge in a bar setting.

Gay sports bar Woofs hosts trivia on Wednesdays. They assure that it’s of the general variety, so an encyclopedic knowledge of sports isn’t necessary to compete.

And though it’s not trivia in the traditional sense, Burkhart’s Tuesday night Family Feud game, hosted by the always-irreverent Mary Edith Pitts, is a good way for trivia fans to test their awareness of the pop culture zeitgeist.
