Best Day Spa
Readers’ Choice: Spa Sydell
Who among us couldn’t use a little pampering? How about an entire day of it? Spa Sydell offers customized facial treatments body treatments, nail services, make-up application and consultation as well as hair removal. Along with these services and products, it has Spa Packages at affordable prices: a half-a-day of pampering goes for $140 and includes a facial, body massage and/or manicure/pedicure with spa hand treatment. A Deluxe Spa Day includes a body scrub plus one additional selected service for $300. Second place went to Natural Body. Third place was a three-way tie between Cobalt, Cortex and Julio Ceasars.

Best Chiropractor
Readers’ Choice: Rudy Watkins
Chiropractic is a venerable ‘alternative’ form of medicine. By keeping the spinal column in alignment, the rest of the body maintains its optimal function. Most chiropractors take a holistic approach to administering to their patients, keeping them well and happy without medications — simply using what the body already has naturally. Rudy Watkins was voted best chiropractor in Atlanta, with Scott Belue in second and Patrick Greco in third.

Best Massage
Readers’ Choice: Cristi Adams
Everyone loves to have their back kneaded, their neck loosened and their entire body stroked, and there’s no shortage of great massage options in Atlanta. At least our readers think so, as 11 body-rubbers tied for third place on this list. But above them all were champion masseuse Cristi Adams and second-place finisher Gustavo Morales.

Best Hair Salon
Readers’ Choice: Helmet Hairworx
A location in the heart of Midtown is just one of the reasons Southern Voice readers love Helmet Hairworx. Customers can rest assured that a team of professionals will take the time for cuts and styles as unique as the patrons themselves. If they’re booked, the runner-up salon is Cortex. Salon 2000 and Steve Hightower tie for third place.

Best Gym
Readers’ Choice: LA Fitness Factory
In just one year, LA Fitness at Ansley Mall became the most popular place to work out in town. Its membership is a steal — about $35 a month covers everything — and the club features what it touts as the largest workout floor around. Members are a decidedly mixed crowd as well: Patrons range from 77-year-olds with physical trainers to pro athletes to, of course, gay male workout gods. In second place was Urban Body Fitness, followed by Fitness Factory.

Best Pet Day Care
Readers’ Choice: Piedmont Bark
Going out of town and need your beloved canine companion cared for? Or maybe you just don’t want Fido to be bored while you’re at work. According to our readers, the best place in town is Piedmont Bark. One look at the facility’s Web site is enough to tell you why. A personal message from Sebastian Campbell, C.O.D. (Chief Operating Dog) extols Piedmont Bark’s virtues: simulated indoor park-like settings complete with trees and park benches, designated run areas, clean kennels for sleeping and eating and an experienced staff. Barking Hound came in a close second, with a three-way tie for third place between Critter Sitters, Play All Day and Pets Are People Too.

Best Piercing Studio
Readers’ Choice: Piercing Experience
No matter what you want, chances are the Piercing Experience has it and can stick it just where you want it. The Piercing Experience leaves no stone unturned when it comes to taking precautions. Using sterile techniques and autoclave sterilizing every item before the piercing procedure, gentle tissue massage and alignment techniques as opposed to clamps, and disposing of all
materials used, the Piercing Experience reduces the risk of infection and enhances your piercing pleasure. Second place went to Sacred Heart, and third was a tie between Timeless Tattoo and Urban Tattoo.

Best Tatoo Studio
Readers’ Choice: Sacred Heart
With multiple artists and varying styles to choose from, it’s no wonder that Sacred Heart Tattoo’s two locations — Little Five Points and Norcross — stole readers’ hearts. Choices for tattoos range from spiritual and gothic to utterly outlandish. But all are colorful, vibrant works of art created by the artist of your choice. Psycho took second place, and Timeless Tattoo took third.

Best Tanning Salon
Reader’s Choice: Simply Sun Tanning Salon
Nothing quite says gay like a fake tan to go with a killer body. That’s why Southern Voice readers had no difficulties narrowing down the field to name Simply Sun the best place in the city to meet their bronzing needs from head to toe. The race was close, with Ansley Beach finishing second and Malibu Beach & Tanning Salon taking third.
